 Deepika Mishra

Deepika had all odds stacked against her growing up as a female child in a poor household. Deepika’s younger brother had the opportunity to attend school, but she did not, because her family needed her support. She began working as a domestic servant at age of 7 and was on a trajectory to be an illiterate domestic servant all her life. Then one day, a different turn came about in her life when her brother heard about Vidya & Child and encouraged her to join us. After completing the tenth grade, Deepika began a sales job at a clothing store. She went on to pursue her education and became the first in her family to attend college.

Her father works as a driver and mother works in a school. She is the oldest amongst 5 siblings. All the siblings have been part of Vidya & Child and have been mainstreamed in CBSE English medium schools. One of her brothers has also completed Class XII through NIOS and is currently working along with studying part-time to complete his graduation in BSW.

She completed her Class XII through open school and is now working in the Hospitality Industry. She is also pursuing a degree in Business Administration & Marketing through distance learning so that she can work alongside and fund for her own education. Her confident smile and twinkle of her eyes have not withered away.
